South Tex Organics (2005)

A just-in-time ecommerce implementation

South Tex Organics was facing a problem...their web designer had closed up shop, and it was less than two weeks before their season started. Lynda and Dennis needed dependable help, and quick! Lynda's cousin, my client Sheri Rowland, referred them to me and I was able to help them on day one.

I quickly discovered that their site was causing much more work for them than necessary...Lynda had to manually input every order for credit card authorization, as well as manually create labels for hundreds of UPS shipments. No wonder she dreaded this aspect of the business!

I worked closely with their UPS rep to come up with a system that would automate both processes, in addition to smoothly handling all other aspects of the online experience. He suggested Yahoo Small Business, and we decided we would move the site after the seasonal rush was over.

A few days later, Lynda gave me a call and asked me if I thought it would be crazy to move the site and the cart as soon as possible. Crazy like a fox, I replied.

We turned it around in less than a week, with little disruption to the flow of orders. The new ecommerce setup was available immediately after Thanksgiving, and Lynda was delighted to discover that her work was significantly reduced...not only were authorizations automatic, but the UPS WorldShip system authomatically printed shipping labels. This gave her more time to focus on other aspects of the business during their busiest season. Crazy indeed.
